Simple drawing of candle being lit by a laser.

There's not a lot going on here. I didn't even use any references (although I'm fairly pleased with the subsurface scattering in the wax, and the flame itself). The candle's flame and the laser's scattered beam are both sources of illumination, which you can see on the candlestick. The laser (probably in the multi-watt or multi-decawatt range) is plausibly strong enough to ignite the wick but not enough to destroy the surroundings. The laser is too low power to interact with the flame, but I should have drawn it scattering in the smoke.

I tried to go pretty quickly on this, so start to finish it took < 20 minutes to draw, even though there are about ten layers in the candle. Of course, getting photoshop to even load it to clean up the scan took literally 30 minutes, so . . .
