Old Sketches

I did some sketching in high school and undergrad. In grad school I somehow acquired a quantum leap in artistic talent[1]. These are (some of) the sketches I produced before that (click to embiggen). Either way, I am by no means a professional artist. However, I do think that some of the following are amusing in some way. They are presented here for your enjoyment; but don't expect like you're going to the Louvre. I'll add more as I find them (or improve the scans with modern technology).

If you want to link, download, repost, etc. these images, please do! See also this page.

Later, better artwork can be found here.

Lineups

Ghibli Lineup

Artwork.
Big fan of Studio Ghibli; some characters from their movies.[2]

Bad Movie Lineup

Artwork.
A random sci-fi lineup (as for a movie poster). The idea was that this would be the epitome of a modern movie; comparatively little plot and lots of action.

A bunch of random steampunk characters.

Airplane Story

The first drawing in the series was made in an attempt to be a scene in the sci-fi action movie in the lineup above. The story then progressed from there, becoming more and more surreal with (deliberately) cheesier and cheesier dialog to make it seem more like a modern movie and less like a decent story. The second drawing depicts our hero getting shot down. The third drawing shows his attacker, rather well drawn, I believe. The fourth drawing is our hero (who survived) showing max-cheese angst about it. In the fifth drawing our hero has returned to base. In the sixth, he's flying it and a nuclear war starts. In the seventh, the timeline is completely off the rails.

I can't stand by the storytelling and dialogue, but the art is at times pretty decent if I do say so myself (even if it was captured on a bad phone camera instead of a scanner).

Creationism

Artwork.
Sure; let's talk; do some debate. But really? Regardless of the truth/falsity of creationism, this argument for it is preposterously invalid. Warranted a graph joke.

Political Spectrum

Artwork.
Political spectrum. If you find it surprising, know that it was rendered with the guidance of a number of teachers at different institutions, and it is reflected in modern political science textbooks. Other people added some data points too, though. See if you can figure out the political affiliation of wax paper.

Fix My Plane

Artwork.
Some stupid American pilot wants his (completely totaled) plane fixed, and the only one willing to try is an incompetent, duct-tape wielding WWI-era damsel with a utility belt and some initiative.

Punch a Goldfish in the Face

Artwork.
This came out of an IRC conversation I found logged, while looking for something else. The picture captures the moment when a grown man punches a (rather-obese) goldfish in the face.[3]
